So you need something translated, but don't know where to begin?

Just a few questions can assure a quality translation, and save time and money:

What Happens in a Translation?

Translation is usually something we lawyers never think about, until we need one--ASAP!

Obtaining a quality translation worthy of inclusion in your own legal work is not as easy as asking your colleague who happens to speak another language to translate your document over the weekend.  You need to be sure the quality is accurate and professional in order to maintain your own credibility and to serve your clients properly.

So what do you do when you suddenly have a document that needs translation and you have no idea where to start?

First, you should find a professional Translation Provider specializing in legal documents.  Develop a working relationship with this provider, so that that may get to know you, your preferences, style and your processes, which will save you time on each project going forward.  As they get to know you, your standard documents and your staff, this can shorten turnaround times, as well.

Second, always send your translation out for a quote early, even if you are not sure you are going to need the translation after all.  We understand that "uncertainty until the last minute" is common in the legal business.  We are happy to provide a free quote without any obligation whatsoever.  So send out your document for a quote as soon as you think you might need it.

Next, work with your Translation Provider to determine exactly what you need translated and when you need it to be completed. They can help you determine the parameters of you project.  Sometimes, for example, an entire document need not be translated, if there are pages and pages repeated, for example, thereby saving you money and shortening the turnaround time.

Finally, once your document is in the capable hands of your Legal Translation provider, you can relax, and know that your professional quality translation project will be completed when you need it, so that you can focus on your own critical work.

Below is a graphic representation of what happens when you send your document to Online Legal Translations to be translated.  We hope this will prepare you for your next translation project
